A lot of information on the upcoming features of iPhone 8 have been consistently surfacing through the code of HomePod firmware. Its trial production has allegedly started and it is pegged to launch with iPhone 7S and 7S Plus in September. Fresh information suggests that the iPhone 8’s dual rear cameras will be capable of shooting 4K resolution videos at 60 fps. The iPhone 8’s front camera is also expected to 4K resolution video shooting.
The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus also supports 4K resolution video shooting but only through their rear cameras. Also, these phones are capable of shooting 4K videos at 30 fps. Their front cameras are capable of shooting videos at full HD resolution only.
The 4K resolution video files usually consume huge size. However, the new file type called HVEC from Apple considerably reduces the sizes of 4K videos. The HomePod firmware suggests that 4K videos recorded through front and rear cameras of the iPhone 8 will support HVEC file type. HVEC can take around 40 percent less storage space than H.264.
The code [CAMCaptureCapabilities isBack4k60VideoSupported] in the above image is the evidence of the arrival of 60 fps 4K videos on iPhone 8. The below photo highlights those entries of the code that show that 60fps for 4K videos will be also supported by front cameras. Rumors have also suggested that Apple iPhone 8 will be arriving with augmented reality capabilities and support for 4K videos at 60 fps will offer several AR enhancements like improved tracking.
Guilherme Rambo, an iOS developer has also found in the HomePod’s firmware code that the vertical dual cameras will support a feature called SmartCam. It would be able to automatically choose the best scene mode from options like Baby, Bright Stage, Document, Fireworks, Foliage, Pet, Sky, Snow, Sport and more.

It has been revealed that the Apple iPhone 8 would be carrying support for 3D facial recognition through its pair of iris sensors. Speculations suggest that it may not feature Touch ID sensor. Hence, the upcoming iPhone 8 may support authentication of Apple Pay payments through the alleged Face ID feature. The mentioning of inductive charging suggests that it will support wireless charging. The iPhone 8 is also speculated to feature OLED status bar that has already appeared in its leaked renders.
